New kickoff date set for ultimate Seven-a-Side Football Championship

Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Denise Miller eager to witness the thrilling action from July 5-12.

Kaieteur Sports – After months of delays caused by inclement weather and the unavailability of suitable playing venue, the long-awaited Seven-a-Side Inter-Ward/Village Knockout Football Championship finally has a new kickoff date.

Officially dubbed the Deputy Mayor’s Cup 2025, the highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to kick off on July 5th and 6th at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Georgetown.

A total of 32 teams are expected to clash in an electrifying battle for over one million dollars in cash and prizes. The tournament will unfold across four nights, with winners from the first two nights automatically advancing to the Round of 16. From there, teams will fight for a coveted spot in the final eight, which will be determined on Wednesday, July 9th.

The 2025 edition is expected to climax in thrilling fashion on Saturday, July 12, when the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will all be played in a single, action-packed night.

Georgetown’s Deputy Mayor, Denise Miller, expressed optimism about the new start date, following nearly two months of unforeseen delays. Tournament Coordinator and former national coach Lennox Arthur has also issued a strong reminder to all participating teams to be punctual, warning that late arrivals will result in forfeitures.

What’s at Stake?

Aside from bragging rights and community pride, teams will compete for substantial financial rewards, including; $500,000 in cash along with championship prize and medals. Second place finisher will receive $300,000 in cash while third and fourth place finishers will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000, respectively. In addition, special awards will be presented to the Most Disciplined Team and the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Leading up to the tournament, a strong community backing were extended to the organiser.
