Kaieteur News- Police ranks on Sunday captured two carjackers sleeping in a taxi driver’s car, hours after they had tied him up, beat him and then threw him out of the vehicle.
They were nabbed in the Lusignan backlands, East Coast Demerara (ECD) late Sunday night next to a wooden house. The car was covered with what looked like a tarpaulin and was already stripped of some of its parts.
Kaieteur News understands that swift work by police helped to track the car and the suspects.
The suspects had hired the car on Sunday afternoon at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB) for a trip to Mahaica.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, one of the victim’s relatives related that when he arrived at their location, they pointed a gun to his head and instructed him to drive.
“Dem, tell he continue driving,” she said while explaining that they directed him to a lonely area in the Lusignan where they tied up, assaulted him and then dumped out of his own car before driving off with it.
The taxi managed to free himself and get help. A good Samaritan assisted with him with a phone-call and he informed his family of what transpired.
They located him and the matter was reported to the police.
Swift work led to the nabbing of the perpetrators within hours.
