Plans for Independence Cup Softball Cricket in Berbice moving apace
Kaieteur Sports- Plans are moving apace for the hosting of the inaugural “Independence Cup” softball cricket on Monday, 26th May at the Whim Community Centre Ground in Region 6 from 9 am.
According to the organisers the one-day tournament will be played based on a one-game knock-out format and each innings will consist of 10 overs, round arm and wrist bowling, and will see both male and female cricketers in action.

As to the previous release, the organisers said that teams are asking for the fiberglass bats to be used, and it was given the green light to be part of the competition, and the supreme balls will be used for the tournament.
The winning male team is guaranteed $200,000 and the female winner $100,000 in cash, along with trophies, while cash incentives and trophies will be given to the runner-up teams. Also, prizes will be awarded to the MVP, player of the final, best bowler, and best batsman in an innings in each category.
Several teams have already shown their interest in participating, and registration closes on 23rd May. Interested teams can contact 657-2022 for registration. Teams would not be allowed to enter the competition after the closing date.
According to the release, there will be lots of side attractions during the day for fans. While there will be bar-b-que on sale, a well-stocked beverage bar, and music to entertain the spectators.
Supporting the tournament are VN Contracting Services, Danzies Fashion & Auto Sales, KT Fabrication and Construction Company, Roraima Developers, and 4 S Trucking Services.
Several teams have already shown interest in participating, and registration closes on 23rd May. Interested teams can call 657-2022 to register.
Teams will not be allowed to enter the competition after the closing date.
