Kaieteur News- As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, The Waterfalls saw it fit to highlight stories of moms who find the magic in ordinary days and sacrifice to make their little ones’ dreams come. To this end, this week, this publication will highlight the enterprise of a talented mother turned her passion for creativity into a thriving business.
Hailing from the beautiful Kabakaburi Mission in Pomeroon, Region Two, 32-year-old Tina Seabra-Gibson is the proud mom of two and the founder of a branding business called SEAGIB Branding; a venture she co-owns with her husband Don Gibson.
Seabra-Gibson in an exclusive interview with this magazine revealed that SEAGIB Branding was officially launched on April 11, 2021 but the vision was birthed during COVID pandemic in 2020. The full name she said is a blend of two meaningful parts of her identity. ‘SEA’ comes from her maiden name, Seabra, while ‘GIB’ comes from her married name, Gibson. Merging them, she noted was her way of honouring both chapters of her life, especially as a tribute to her late father, ensuring that a part of him lives on, in everything she creates.
Asked what inspired this venture, the mother of two said, “I’ve always had a deep passion for creativity. For years, I would design flyers, birthday cards, and other graphics for close family and friends, just for the love of it.”
She recalled that during the COVID-19 pandemic, which also happened to be the year she gave birth to her daughter, she found herself with more time at home. She explained that period became a turning point, giving her space to focus on herself and explore her creative potential more deeply.
“It was during that time that I read a powerful book called Go for Glory by Kez Yisrael. The message in that book truly opened my eyes and gave me the push I needed. It helped me realize that I could turn my creative passion into something bigger, my own business,” she recollected.
Having had years of experience in the marketing field, Seabra-Gibson said that bringing her vision to life came naturally.
In launching SEAGIB Branding, she related that she started off small, offering graphic design services.
Today, she noted her business has grown into a full-fledged creative agency offering a wide range of services including social media management, signage design, branded novelties, T-shirt printing, marketing strategy development, graphic and logo design, flyers, business cards, radio ads, videography and more. All offering on a small-scale basis, she added.
As her business slogan states ‘Make Your Mark’, she mentioned that at SEAGIB Branding, everything she does is driven by her mission to help others because she believes every brand deserves to be seen, remembered, and celebrated.
Looking back on her business journey since her launch four years ago, she related that like many small business owners, she too faced several challenges early on.
According to her, one of the biggest challenges being limited resources. “Operating from home with minimal equipment and space made it difficult to take on larger projects or expand my services. I also struggled with self-doubt at times, wondering if I was truly capable of building something sustainable,” she explained.
Not someone who gives up easily, Seabra-Gibson mentioned that she pushed through by staying focused, being resourceful, and maximizing what she had. “I made sure every project reflected quality, no matter how small, which helped build trust and credibility,” she added.
Getting her through the difficult time also, she noted she leaned on her support system – God, her husband, friends, family, and loyal customers. “Slowly but surely, things began to improve, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come,” she expressed.
Proud of her accomplishments, the young entrepreneur commented that the support over the past four years has been truly overwhelming, in the best way.
She disclosed that in the beginning of things, it was mostly family and friends who believed in her and supported the business. But as she began to establish herself and deliver quality work, word started to spread. And it was through referrals and the power of social media, she was able to grow an organic and loyal customer base, which continues to expand.
Excited for what is yet to come for SEAGIB Branding, the mother of two revealed that her long-term goal is to expand her operations by investing in more equipment so she can offer a wider range of services.
“Right now, I’m working from home; believe it or not, I’ve set up in my unfinished bathroom, and the only available space I have. It is humble beginnings, but I’m making the most of it. Ultimately, I aim to have my own dedicated physical location where clients can visit, collaborate, and experience the brand in a professional setting,” she shared.
Seabra-Gibson shared too that being a mom and business owner comes with challenges but they are her reasons why. “There are some days; I don’t feel like I do. There are moments when the pressure feels so heavy that I just sit and cry. Juggling work responsibilities, running a business, and being a full-time mom is overwhelming. But despite the chaos, I keep going. What keeps me grounded is my WHY…my children.”
She added “Being a mom motivates me more than anything else. They are the reason I push harder, even on days when I feel like giving up. Everything I’m building…My career, my business, my brand…It’s not just for me. It’s for them. I’m working to create generational wealth, to leave behind a legacy they can one day inherit and be proud of.”
Moreover, the young entrepreneur said, “My strength comes from God. I lean on my faith daily, especially when things get tough.”
Living by the scripture, ‘the young woman explained that this verse grounds, guides, and fuels her journey as a wife, mother, professional, and an entrepreneur.
“The scripture, Philippians 4:13’, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” isn’t just a verse to me, it’s a lifeline. It reminds me that I’m not alone in this journey. Even when I’m tired, stretched thin, or filled with doubt, I know there’s a greater purpose behind it all,” she added
Contributing to society meaningfully in her own ways, this young entrepreneur is of the view that small business owners are helping to build more dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking communities.
“Young entrepreneurs play a vital role in shaping the future of Guyana. We bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and innovative solutions to everyday problems. We also show that success isn’t defined by age or background, but by passion, resilience, and vision,” she elaborated.
Asked what she thinks can be done in our society to help small businesses grow, she said there is already strong emphasis on supporting locally made products and the green industry in Guyana which is great progress, small businesses in the creative and service-based industries often don’t benefit from these initiatives.
She noted however, “there’s a real need for more targeted support for entrepreneurs like myself who operate in branding, marketing, and design. Access to funding, affordable workspaces, and exposure through local events or business directories would go a long way in helping us grow and compete on a larger scale.”
