The growing tense situation as a result of the military confrontation between India and Pakistan is alarming and should be stopped before it gets worse. Both countries are nuclear powers and any further escalation could have dire consequences not only for the two neighboring states but for the region as a whole.

The world community especially the United Nations Security Council should get involved immediately to diffuse any further tension before it is too late. We have had enough of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East which continue to have devastating impacts on civilian populations and infrastructure.

No effort should be spared to bring this conflict to an end.

At a much more fundamental level, efforts should be made to bring about a peaceful and lasting solution to the issue of Kashmir which is the root cause of the conflict between the two countries.

The issue of Kashmir goes beyond territorial control. It also has ethno-cultural and historical roots dating back to 1947 when the country was divided into two independent states.
