Kaieteur News- A 14-year-old girl was stabbed outside the Giftland Mall on Sunday night, police have confirmed.
The teen, identified as Saskeya Tobin, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Kaieteur News understands that Tobin is a cancer survivor.
Regional Commander of Division 4A and Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean told Kaieteur News that an investigation has been launched into the stabbing.
“We are investigating,” McBean said. “I don’t want to give you the details now because we are still uncertain about the details. We have heard several versions of the story.”
However, McBean did disclose that the incident was connected to a fight that broke out in the area. “In my view, there seems to have been a brawl with some youths,” he stated.
When asked whether Tobin was directly involved in the brawl or was an innocent bystander, McBean offered no comment.
