Kaieteur News- Crime scene investigators were on Friday seen sweeping for evidence at the Double Day International Hotel where 11-year-old Adrianna Younge was found dead in the pool, hours after it was partially destroyed by fire.
Younge’s floating body was found in the hotel’s pool hours after police stated that she was seen leaving in a black and red Toyota Raum during an alleged abduction.
Police have since admitted to releasing an “inaccurate” report about the abduction.
The major hiccup caused public outrage across the country and protests in front of the hotel at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

When word spread that Younge was found dead in the pool after it was already searched, protestors stormed the building and began vandalizing the property by hurling glass bottles at glass structures.
Not long after thick, black smoke was seen emanating from the building and Kaieteur News learnt that it was set on fire. Firetrucks and firefighters responded but could not reach the building resulting in the building being completely destroyed.
Concerns were raised that the fire and tampering of the crime scene can destroy evidence that could have helped solve the mystery behind Younge’s death.
Nevertheless, investigators showed up on Friday and cordoned off the building with crime scene tape. Some were seen jotting information on note pads while others took photos. The investigators were also seen walking through ruble and debris presumably looking for clues.
Police are yet to disclose any details about ongoing investigations but have revealed that the hotel owner and staff were detained for questioning.
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken late Friday. It was disclosed too that the Commander for the district, recently promoted Assistant Commissioner of Police Khalid Mandall was transferred to the East Bank of Demerara police division.
He disclosed too that a number of police ranks in the Region Three district are being questioned.
“At this juncture, the investigators are still interviewing persons who can assist with the investigations,” Hicken said before later adding, “Guyana Police Force will provide updates as the investigations unfold.”
Hicken’s statement on ongoing investigations was just moments after the relatives of the pre-teen via their attorney Darren Wade said that they do not have confidence in the police force to carry out an impartial and thorough investigation.
Wade in a statement on behalf of his clients wrote, “As a consequence, I am instructed by my clients as I hereby do to demand that the State of Guyana invites the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the Scotland Yard or the Royal Mounted Branch of Canada to investigate this matter.”
Other demands include family’s disapproval of Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul-a pathologist appointed by the government-to conduct Younge’s autopsy.
Wade also related that his office, “is in communication with North America-based pathologists and they working among themselves for one pathologist to travel to Guyana over the weekend or possible to do the postmortem examination on Monday.”
A request was also made for the government to instruct the medical broad to grant all the necessary approvals for the Pathologist to travel.
It is unclear if the request has been met but Hicken in his statement said, “It is significant to note that the Guyana Police Force is also awaiting the arrival of another independent pathologist who was identified by family members of the deceased to perform the post-mortem examination.”

I saw a photo someone posted on social site META ” a suspect” leaving the hotel
with an Inspector showing behind this suspect. His shoes appeared to have
bloodstains, pants wet…. which means, if true, he was in the premises and
could be the suspect.
