Kaieteur News- A 42-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in the early hours of Wednesday morning following a collision at the intersection of Camp and Norton Streets, Georgetown.
The injured man has been identified as Andrew Simpson, of Lot 3 Providence, East Bank Demerara. The accident occurred around 01:00 hrs and involved motorcycle CN 9518, which Simpson was riding, and a motor car bearing registration number PAC 9667, owned and driven by Christopher Washington.
According to a police report, Washington was travelling west along the southern drive lane of Norton Street. As he approached the intersection, he reportedly failed to stop while proceeding north along the western drive lane of Camp Street.
“The car failed to stop at the intersection of Camp and Norton Street, driving into the path of motorcycle CN 9518, which was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of Camp Street, and a collision occurred,” police said in a statement.
As a result of the impact, Simpson was thrown into the air, landed on the front of the car, and then fell onto the road surface, sustaining multiple injuries. Police also noted, “The motorcyclist was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the accident.”
Subsequently, an ambulance was summoned to the scene and Simpson was picked up in a conscious state by emergency medical technicians and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Accident and Emergency Unit. He is listed in stable condition. Notices of intended prosecution were served on both drivers as investigations into the incident continue.
