Kaieteur News- The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development is preparing to spend approximately $122 million to construct a market facility at Port Kaituma, Region One.
Bids for the project were opened recently at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office. It was revealed that eight contractors have applied for the contract. According to the information provided, the contractors bid between $74 million and $112 million for the contract.
The Local Government Ministry, which has responsibility for several market facilities across the country, was allocated some $2.7 billion to enhance the infrastructure of several markets this year. The Port Kaituma market project cost comes under the said allocation.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that infrastructural works are being done at market spaces to enhance the environment and make it safer and comfortable for vendors to ply their trade.
