Kaieteur News- A 40-year-old man was placed on $25,000 bail on Monday, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of assault.
Taishan Shanks was charged for allegedly assaulting Racquel Williams, the mother of his child on April 14, 2025 at 36 Princess Street, Georgetown. Shanks pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to him by Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
He was represented by Attorney-at-law Jermaine Jarvis, who told the court that on the day of the incident, his client and Williams had an argument, during which Shanks advised his child’s mother to take the car and go for a drive to ‘cool off’. Jarvis said the women left in a rage, threatening that she would be making a report to the police. He said his client was later charged.
The prosecution did not object to bail, but requested that the defendant make no contact with Williams. Magistrate Azore granted Shanks bail. He is scheduled to return to court on May 12, 2025.
