Kaieteur News- A 57-year-old trucker lost his life on March 8, 2025 after he was pinned under the left side front wheel of a 6×6 logging truck.
The dead man has been identified as Rohan Persaud. Reports are that the accident occurred at 07:00h at Kamechara Creek, Lower Pomeroon.
According to a police report, the accident involved an unregistered logging truck owned by Barakat Timbers Concession Ltd and was driven by the now deceased. Accompanying him was 47-year-old Deonarine Warren.
Investigations revealed that the two men were on their way to the ‘backdam’ when the incident occurred. Deonarine stated that he was in the front passenger’s seat when the truck brakes failed while climbing a hill and the truck began to roll backward at a fast rate.
He added that while the truck rolled back, he jumped out and he later saw the truck stopped in a slush. He went to check on Persaud and saw him pinned under the truck. He tried to render assistance but was unsuccessful. Deonarine then went in search for help, when he came across a few workers along the trail on a tractor who assisted in extracting Persaud’s body. The body was taken to the Charity Cottage Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Deonarine was treated at the hospital and transferred to Suddie Hospital for further medical attention.
Investigations are ongoing.
