… drivers will be notified of tickets to make payments for traffic violations
Kaieteur News- In light of the soon-to-be launched automated e-ticketing system on April 7, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has revealed that the system will be integrated with the ‘Padna’ app.
The app, which was launched in January this year, allows users to easily access and manage documents like tax returns, vehicle documents, and licences from their mobile devices.
It also helps users prepare tax returns by automatically pulling data from their 7B slip, reducing common mistakes. It includes a vehicle tax calculator for popular cars being imported into the country.
During a programme on Radio Eve Leary on Friday, head of Information Technology (IT) at GRA, Sese Jones explained that the initiative will be launched officially once the revenue body has completed its tax-filing season.
“We (GRA) will be releasing the ability for you to do your motor vehicle licences and make payments via the platform. When we do that subsequently thereafter, we will facilitate the tickets being pushed to the app,” Jones explained.
He continued, “The taxpayer, driver … (will be) notified that they have a ticket and they have to you know, review the details and make a payment for that ticket right from the Padna app.”
Jones related that payments for the tickets could be made through Mobile Money Guyana (MMG).
Jones described the app as a “personal friend” to help navigate tax-related tasks. One key feature is the ability to verify documents electronically using QR codes, which can be used to authenticate Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificates and driver’s licences.
The initiative aims to provide a seamless solution for taxpayers to manage traffic violations, allowing them to take immediate actions.
Jones noted that there has been a significant increase in the number of persons using the ‘Padna’ app, especially during the tax-filing season since its launch.
The government will launch an advanced automated speed-ticketing system as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce speeding. The system, powered by radar speed signs and speed cameras connected to cloud infrastructure, will automatically detect speeding violations and issue tickets. This initiative is part of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) Project, a collaboration between the Guyana Police Force and the National Data Management Authority (NDMA).
President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali highlighted the importance of adopting new technologies to enhance safety and accountability.
