Kaieteur News- A 29 -year old man of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, Region Tw0 pleaded guilty on Wednesday to driving under the influence of alcohol and driving an unregistered vehicle with out a driver’s license.
The defendant identified as Kellim Benjamin appeared at the Suddie Magistrate Court before Magistrate, Tamieka Clarke.
He was slapped three charges, driving a motor vehicle while his breath alcohol level was above the legal limit, being an unlicensed driver and driving an unregistered vehicle.
Contrary to Section 39 (A) 1 Act, chapter 51:02
He had initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty.
The court then ordered that he pay a fine $150,000 for drunk driving or spend three months in prison. He was also ordered to pay a $20,000 and a $10,000 fine for being an unlicensed driver and driving an unregistered vehicle respectively. Failure to pay these two fines can result in him spending a total of a month and two-weeks in prison.
