Kaieteur News- A 39-year-old Cuban national was on Monday sentenced to three months in prison for illegally entering Guyana by sea.
Yosmel Peres Cisnero appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates Court where he plead guilty to arriving in Guyana by sea, disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer charge.
Cisnero, who spoke through an interpreter, said that he entered the country on March 14, 2025 and was detained on the same day. He said that he traveled alone from Cuba and have no family or friends here.
“When I come, they told me I had to go to the office, that same day they detained me and it was a holiday,” Cisnero said via the interpreter.
Cisnero was fined $30,000 but he told the court that he was unable to pay the fine which resulted in him being jailed for three months.
