-Focus shifts to 2025 CARIFTA Games

Kaieteur Sports- The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission (NSC), along with the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), has pledged full support to the newly elected executives of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG).

Executives of the AAG along with Minister Charles Ramson, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, President of the GOA, Godfrey Munroe, along with other officials following yesterday’s meeting at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

President of the AAG, Sheryl Hermonstine, and her executive team met with Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr., NSC Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, GOA President Godfrey Munroe, and other officials yesterday in the boardroom of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

Minister Ramson congratulated Hermonstine and wished her a successful tenure, highlighting that this is a crucial period for athletics, given Guyana’s recent success on the regional and international stage, particularly in youth athletics.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to the sport’s development, Ramson outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing opportunities for athletes, administrators, and coaches.

He assured Hermonstine of his Ministry’s willingness to collaborate closely with the AAG to achieve its goals while ensuring athletes receive the necessary support and exposure.

The Minister also expressed confidence that Guyana’s next Olympic medals will come from athletics, citing the strong trajectory of the current generation of athletes.

Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle echoed the Minister’s sentiments, stressing that immediate focus must be placed on preparing and supporting Guyana’s team for the upcoming CARIFTA Games.

At the last CARIFTA Games, Guyana secured fourth place overall with eight medals (four gold, three silver, and one bronze). Ninvalle reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to working alongside the AAG to build on that success.

Meanwhile, Munroe welcomed the AAG’s long-term vision, particularly its focus on the 2028 Olympic Games. He assured that the GOA stands ready to support the association, underlining the importance of proper administration and athlete development.

Munroe also pointed out the significance of upcoming regional and continental championships as stepping stones to the 2028 Olympics and expressed his enthusiasm for working closely with the AAG.

Hermonstine and her team affirmed their commitment to advancing the sport, with preparations for CARIFTA 2025 already underway.

She expressed optimism about Guyana’s participation in next month’s meet in Trinidad and Tobago and was grateful for the support from the Ministry of Sport, GOA, and NSC.
