Kaieteur News- A 43-year-old motorcyclist died on Sunday night after he lost control of the motorcycle he was driving and collided into a car driven by a senior police officer.
Dead is Laikram Bandine of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, Berbice man.
Reports are that the accident occurred at 22:20h along the Garson Road, East Canje.
According to a police report, the accident involved a car bearing registration number PAF 5919 and Bandine’s motorcycle with registration number SLP 2.
The car was driven by 43-year-old Police Superintendent and Deputy Commander, Regional Division 6, Ravindra Stanley who is a resident of Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD). Stanley is stationed at the New Amsterdam Police Station.
Police said that the car was traveling south along the eastern driving lane of the Canje Public Road “at a normal speed”. The Deputy Commander signaled left to turn onto Garson Road, located on the eastern side of the thoroughfare.
As he was turning, the Bandine who was speeding on his motorcycle lost control causing him to fall onto the eastern grass parapet before colliding with the left rear fender of car.
Stanley contacted the police immediately.
At the time of the accident, the motorcyclist was not wearing a safety helmet causing him to sustain injuries to his head and other parts of his body. He was picked up in a semi-conscious state by porters and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
Bandine’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Stanley was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which registered a reading of zero. The car and motorcycle have been lodged at the New Amsterdam Police Station for examination.
