Kaieteur News- A 22-year-old man was remanded to prison on Friday after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer four Robbery under Arms charges.
Yohance Yarris of Q71 Guyhoc Garden, Georgetown is accused of collectively stealing $3M in jewellery, gadgets, colognes and money from the victims.
Yarris, in the presence of another, was reportedly armed with a gun when he robbed the four victims.
On February 19, 2025 at East Ruimveldt Front Road, Georgetown Yarris reportedly robbed Adrian Alli of an iPhone 14 pro-max valued $200,000.
On September 26, 2024 at Shopping Lane Street, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown Yarris reportedly robbed Aenyon Grannum of three gold chains valued $1.1 million.
Candace Stuart was robbed of a black Samsung S21 cell phone valued $120,000, one Bahara Queen Cologne valued $22,000 and $18,000 cash totaling to $160,000 on January 8, 2025 at 234 Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Yarris is also accused of robbing Shane Stewart on January 8, 2025 at 234 Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown of a white and silver iPhone valued $220,000, a series eight Apple watch valued $120,000, an Apple fourth generation ear-pods valued $60,000, a black and white spray-ground haversack valued $40,000, a black Acer laptop valued $80,000, one bottle of Johnny Walker Whiskey valued $25,000 and a quantity of colognes valued $100,000.
Yarris pleaded not guilty after all the charges were read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty. His attorney requested reasonable bail since her client is not a flight risk. The attorney told the court that her client was approached by two police officers who started shooting at him. He was shot to his chest and right pinky finger. As a result of the gunshot wounds, he was hospitalized. The attorney noted too that though he has since been discharged, he requires medical treatment.
However, the prosecution objected to bail due to the seriousness of the crime and noted that Yarris is well known to the police since he was wanted for a similar offence.
The court heard that earlier on Friday 28, 2025 Yarris appeared at the Weldaad Magistrates’ Court in Berbice where he was remanded to prison for a similar charge. The prosecution noted that Yarris resisted arrest and was shot in the process.
Magistrate McGusty after listening to both sides, remanded Yarris to prison. He is scheduled to return to court on April 4, 2025.
