Dear Editor,
The Ministry of Education recently commissioned a new block at St. Ignatius Primary. Congratulations to the community on the expansion of the school.
There is however an opportunity to improve the new block by ensuring that there are sufficient windows at the school. Cement blocks are being used for light and windows are missing from a large section of the new block. It is important that sufficient windows are in place as this also provides a means of escape in the unfortunate event of a fire.
CRG recommends that the Fire Inspector review the new block of St. Ignatius to ensure that it meets all fire safety standards. The Fire Inspectors should also review the safety standards and safety requirements in place for all schools, and ensure that Fire Inspectors are required to sign off on the schools before they are allowed to be used. This should be a part of the annual process for the reopening of each school for the new school year.
With concern,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
