Over 2000 ranks participate in annual route march

GPF 185^th Anniversary…

Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force is currently celebrating its 185^th anniversary and on Saturday over 2000 ranks took part in the annual route march. This year, the march commenced at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Drill Square, then proceeded east along Young Street, south along Parade Street, east into Lamaha Street, south along Camp Street, west along Brickdam, north along Avenue of the Republic, continuing north along Main Street, east along Lamaha Street, north along Camp Road, west into Young Street and back to the TSU.

At all intersections along the route there were traffic ranks, who were monitoring for a smooth progression. Any road closures were temporary as they were to facilitate the movement of the parade along the route to and from the TSU. In an advisory earlier this week, road users were reminded to comply with directions of the Police in uniform. Alternative routes of travel were available and it was advised they be utilised for emergency and all other purposes. Salutes were taken at the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Brickdam, and at Young Street in the vicinity of Police Headquarters.

In a short statement via its Facebook Page, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that, “Today’s route march hosted by the Guyana Police Force was a massive success with more than two thousand officers, ranks, CPG members, youth group members, Scouts, private security and other stakeholders participating. Top Cop, Mr. Clifton Hicken lauded all participants for their tremendous display this morning, marching through the streets of Georgetown, drenched from the rainfall.”
