Kaieteur News – Christmas 2023 done gone. But some people now start to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
Dem boys seh, if yuh think yuh done with Christmas and New Year, yuh might wanna think again! Seems like some folks out there been hustling so hard in December, dem barely had time to find dem own shadow, much less host a Christmas bash!
With all dem deadlines, meetings, and spreadsheets piling up like snow in January, some folks had to put the ‘Ho Ho Ho’ on hold and defer the Christmas party to a time when even Santa’s elves done packed up shop!
No wonder some places holding dem Christmas party in late January. But not all is because of de work. Getting a venue also posed a challenge. Most of dem places book fully on weekends since de start of November. But is only in Guyana yuh does find people holding dem Christmas party in January.
But don’t tell dem that is seems out of place. De workers feel dem entitled to have a good time at de bosses expense and whether it is December or January, having a good time trumps the date.
But yuh does have some complications with having a Christmas party in January. One is de awkwardness of wishing each other ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Happy New Year’ when half the office done forgot what day it is, let alone what month it is! It’s like trying to resurrect Santa Claus from a January hangover.
But one thing about Guyanese, dem know fuh enjoy themselves so matter the time or the place. So having a Christmas party in January is no big deal. Some people still wishing dem colleagues a Happy New Year.
