Importation of nurses
Dear Editor,
Recently it was announced that the government is likely to import new nurses from Cuba.
As someone whose family member was previously treated by a Cuban doctor, this arrangement is problematic. The doctor had a very pronounced Spanish accent, and my relative could not clearly understand what she was saying. As a result, he erroneously purchased the incorrect medication which only made him sicker.
English is an official language in India, and the Indian nurses of Kerala are renowned for their expertise and professionalism. It is for this reason that Australian, Canadian, British and American hospitals regularly go to India to recruit and hire these nurses.
If the Guyanese government is serious about providing top notch health care for its people, they will do the same.
