Dear Editor,
I recall the positive impact that the late Wordsworth McAndrew made on my life in my young years as he served Guyana as a folklorist and poet.
Mr. McAndrew, I recalled, encouraged writers to submit their short stories to a radio station to be read on air if selected. Two or three of mine were read and I was guided to write so that my stories do not invite court action by references to real life characters.
Apart from this I was captivated by his poem Ol Higue which I used in the classroom to assist students to appreciate a poem. I think of his contributions as a folklorist too wide and rich for my pen to attempt comments. He left a trail that I as an aged will never forget.
A trail now abandoned.
Where are our folklorists in Guyana?
Regards,
Krishna Nand Prasad
