Peace and Honor to you, Eusi Kwayana. I have come to appreciate your importance in Guyana’s history in recent times, and hold you in high regard for your stance against Burnham when he tried to usurp Dr. Jagan’s leadership of the People’s Progressive Party. Our history would have been much different, and probably much worse, had you not stood up to Burnham when you did. Thank you. I would also like to encourage you if you have not yet done so, to chronicle your version of Guyana’s early history for compilation and release as a reference for Guyanese. This will be an important companion to Dr. Jagan’s West on Trial, and would go a long way in helping Guyanese better understand their history, being a basis for them to work more collaboratively across ethnic/political lines, hopefully eliminating these even, to foster greater social and economic progress. I look forward to its release.
Regarding your above observations on the State of Israel and the United Nations (KN Nov 27/23), there is little question that Israel has been engaged in systematic discrimination, victimization, marginalization, decimation and destabilization of Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank. All combine to equate to the deliberate degradation of the lives of Palestinians with the scurrilous objective it seems of wiping them out of existence within Israel (ethnic cleansing). The Government and people of Israel have over the years been engaged in numerous and unchecked atrocities and abuses against Palestinians, murders and seizures of land, indefinite incarceration of minors for offenses such as throwing rocks at police, etc., giving the impression that such atrocities are condoned and encouraged by the Israeli government against Palestinians.
This savage state of affairs maintained by the Israeli Government has precipitated the majority if not all instances of Palestinian violence/resistance against Israelis. An examination of the history of Israel from its recent birth in the last century will show that successive governments of Israel including and especially the Netanyahu administration have actively engaged in and/or facilitated criminal acts against Palestinians, rendering these governments savages, tyrants, slavish hooligans, outright criminals. Netanyahu has himself been actively engaged in destabilization of the Palestinians with the intention of blocking progress of the Two-State Solution (https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/11/26/netanyahu-hamas-israel-gaza/). Especially, the Netanyahu government should be condemned by the United Nations, the EU, all countries for his government’s abuse of Palestinian prisoners, minors especially, with Netanyahu himself brought to justice before the International Court of Justice for these and other crimes against humanity by his administration. The United Nations, the EU, and all countries should all press Netanyahu to release prisoners not incarcerated for serious crimes immediately. Of the approximately eight thousand Palestinians incarcerated in Israeli prisons, about two hundred are children, while one thousand are being detained without charge or trial (https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/60-palestinian-women-still-held-in-israeli-jails-palestinian-prisoners-society/3066628).
Netanyahu, however, remains far behind Putin whose country in spite of its atrocities against Ukraine, has not been ejected from the United Nations, and continues to be appointed to the rotating role of President of the United Nations Security Council, an utterly outrageous and impossible notion to right-thinking citizens of the world (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65146557). The countries of the United Nations do not have the moral backbone to vote to eject Russia from the UN even as Russia continues to trample the UN underfoot. The UN is wholly lacking in leadership and moral backbone to confront his criminality, a conclusion determined by Putin himself. This is why he continues to massacre and destroy the people and state of Ukraine. And why Netanyahu continues to keep minors incarcerated indefinitely. The institution remains a ponytail in today’s world of war, war crimes, and gross inhumanities across many nations.
Finally, my criticisms have been leveled against the governments and leaders of Israel, not the Israeli people themselves. This is important, because I have no anti-Jewish sentiments, and discourage such among those who do. It has been the policies of the governments of Israel which have been savage, cruel and in violation of the human rights of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Regards,
Craig Sylvester
