…Forde hails “watershed moment”
By Rawle Toney
Kaieteur Sports – A design conceived by SRKN’gineering and Associates, and approved by FIFA, is being hailed as a pivotal moment for football in Guyana by the president of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
“The National Training Centre is not a stadium. It is a high-performance facility, that is being engineered and designed to develop our players and our teams,” Forde explained upon unveiling the design for the Providence facility yesterday.
“As you may recall, we have been discussing this project for quite a few years and we have promised the nation and our football family that at some point we would bring it to them and show them the hard work that has been taking place behind the scene to come up with a venue, a facility that is fit for purpose,” the GFF president added.
Forde elaborated that almost four weeks ago, the GFF presented the design to the FIFA team in Miami, where it received a positive reception and formal approval.
The GFF president further stated, “So we now have the blueprint that is required to move ahead with the rapid construction of the other facilities that will complement the National Training Centre over the next couple of years.”
Once completed, the facility will include dormitories for the accommodation of players, officials, and staff. “We will see the gym, we will see medical facilities and many of the other bits and pieces that are required for the high-performance development of players.”
He emphasised, “The number of benefits that have already been derived from having access to the pitch and some of the minor facilities that we’ve developed over the past couple of years will increase exponentially once we get the seating in place and many of the other pieces that will complement the facility.”

Forde expressed his gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, “because it’s through the forward programme that this venue is being funded.”
He also thanked the government of Guyana, specifically the local NDC, with whom they have a lease for the land, comprising 9.3 acres where the facility is being developed.
While acknowledging that the GFF is the oldest federation within the CONCACAF region, he highlighted that this is the first dedicated home of football being constructed.
Forde extended his gratitude to the members of the GFF Council, the dedicated staff, and the entire football community, whose support and shared vision for excellence have contributed to the work completed and their aspirations for the future.
