Dear Editor,
I, Shaun Smith, hereby bring to your attention, the unathorised use of my email address by one Alicia Henry-West of West General Supplies to publish an article “Concerns regarding NPTAB” in Kaieteur News’ – Friday, October 20, 2023 Edition. I am appalled at this situation, and I am adamant to set the record straight.
Ms. Alicia Henry-West had access to my email account since she assists me with clerical work from time to time. I was made aware that this article was sent from my account on Monday, October 23, 2023 after going through my “sent mail” in search of some information I sent to someone prior. It was then when I noticed the mail in my outbox.
I would like to declare that I do not share the sentiments of Ms. Henry-West. I further declare that I have since distanced myself from Ms. Henry-West and this devious act against a progressive Government. The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is on a drive to empower young contractors and build their capacity so they can move on to medium scale and large-scale projects, an initiative that Ms. Henry-West herself benefited from. Before the last two projects that were awarded to her, she also clearly lacked the necessary qualifications for such significant undertakings. She did not have the capacity herself, but she was facilitated by the Government’s initiative to empower upcoming contractors. Today, she can be considered for mid-scale contracts.
Regarding her statement about questionable background, it is my firm belief that even a reformist, should be allowed the right for personal development and by extension, the opportunity and right to tender for any contract, given they meet the requirements set out by the NPTAB.
The PPP/C is on a drive to empower the young contractors, regardless of ethnicity, religious grouping or political affiliation and that is evident in the award of those same 287 contracts in Region #6. I believe her statement in its entirety is far from the truth and her behaviour shows nothing but selfishness and narcissistic traits.
Respectfully,
Shaun Smith.
