Kaieteur News – A 66-year-old taxi-driver of Lot 24 Duncan Street, Newtown Georgetown was on Wednesday charged and placed on $200,000 bail for allegedly raping a child under the age of 16.
The accused, Gregory Gordon called “Isaiah” appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, when the indictable charge was read to him.
Gordon was represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva. DaSilva secured bail for his client in the sum of $200,000. He told the court that his client is a father and is not a flight-risk.
The police prosecutor made no objection to bail being granted to the accused but asked that conditions be applied to bail. Gordon is prohibited from communicating with the child and is not to come within 300 feet of her place of residence or her school. The court heard that the child is receiving counselling. The accused is slated to make his next court appearance on December 14, 2023.
