Kaieteur Sports – The Farfan and Mendes/Woodpecker Products First Division Leagues featured a thrilling day of action on Sunday. Four matches were played, with YMCA Old Fort and Bounty GCC securing wins in the latest Men’s fixtures, while GBTI GCC and Saints delivered impressive victories in the Women’s division.
GBTI GCC maintained their strong form in their match against YMCA Old Fort. Abosaide Cadogan’s hat-trick led her team to a commanding 6-0 victory. In match #9, GCC got off to a flying start, scoring two early goals in the first period. Cadogan (10′) and Tricia Feidtkou (13′) put their team ahead 2-0 by the end of the first period. They added two more goals, one in the 25th and another in the 35th minute, both courtesy of Tilia Feidthou. Cadogan returned to the score sheet in the third period, netting two more goals in the 46th and 55th minutes.
In the other Women’s fixture, Saints defeated Woodpecker Hikers 2-1. Kaiyra Scott scored two brilliant field goals in the 20th and 36th minutes, while Laticia Chung of the Hikers attempted a comeback with a solitary goal in the 55th minute.
Over in the Men’s category, YMCA Old Fort triumphed over Saints after a slow start. The first period ended in a scoreless tie. However, the second period saw Warren Williams strike for Old Fort in the 29th minute. Saints, in desperate need of a goal, saw Baraka Garnett successfully breach Old Fort’s net to equalize the score in the 36th minute. Williams later scored another field goal in the 60th minute to seal the victory for his team.
Meanwhile, the clash between Bounty GCC and Pepsi Hikers ended with a 3-2 scoreline in favour of GCC. Fredrico Cush (11′), Orland Semple (33′), and Vladimir Woodroffee (47′) were the standout performers for GCC, while Shane Samuels and Robert France scored one goal each in a losing effort.
The excitement continues this Sunday, October 29th, at the same venue for day four action.
