Dear Editor,
Recently the Government has named a building after the late Dr. Roger Luncheon, ostensibly for his service to the country as HPS and probably also for his medical work and today I read that a building at The Bishop’s High School has been named after a former Headmistress, Maureen Massiah. In the latter case I assume the Ministry of Education had to give approval after asking for recommendations from the school.
However, surely there are many others who deserve to have buildings or institutions named after them. I would like to recommend that some appropriate Ministry of Health building, probably at the GPH, be named after esteemed physician and specialist in Internal Medicine the late Dr. Professor Ramsundar Doobay for the sterling work he did at the PHG giving about 50 years of his life in public service. He could have earned lots more in private practice or indeed overseas .Indeed, if this is not already done it would be a travesty if the Honourable Minister of Health did not have this done in short order. I do not know if Dr. Doobay has ever received a national award, maybe he did not care. But I think a posthumous national award of at a minimum the CCH would be in order.
Secondly, I wish to suggest that the new building near the entrance of Queens college(land on which former Headmaster’s residence was located) on Camp Road be named after the energetic and indefatigable Clarence I. Trotz former Lecturer in Physics and Headmaster of the school who has taken the time and effort to chronicle the history of this great institution in his four volume series titled A History of Queen’s college of Guyana 1940-2010.
I look forward to some prompt action from the authorities .
Yours sincerely,
Christopher Persaud
