Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – We gat some businesses in Guyana never heard of a discount. Dem never offer a ‘Sale’ as yet. Asking the owners of these stores fuh tek off something from de price of an item is like a showdown at high noon.
Yuh step into one ah dem shops, yuh face full ah hope and yuh wallet full ah wishes. Yuh spot de thing yuh been eyeing fuh months, and yuh start schemin’ ’bout how to get dat sweet, sweet deal. Yuh muster up all yuh courage and let out de big ask: “Eh bai, yuh coulda knock off a lil’ piece from de price fuh meh?”
Dem business owners, dey gat dis here look, like yuh just asked dem fuh de moon and de stars. Dem done trained in de art of “No Discount” –Dey come back at yuh with lines like “We price already low, man” and “We nah mekking nouttin off of this item.”
Yuh could beg from now to never, the owners are not going to take off a dime off of the price. Even on the day after Thanksgiving, wah Guyanese now celebrating, you can’t squeeze a discount out of them.
Dem no-discount businesses, dem ah different breed altogether! Dem people got a grip tighter than dem taxman clutching on to yuh last lil’ cent.
As for “Buy one, Get one free” dem never hrear about dat! Stock clearing sale is a rarity and does only happen when some item is not selling, like dem XXX jerseys. De only time some places giving discount is when de shelf life of de item about to expire.
Talk half. Leff half!
