– Potaro Strikers advance on the board
Kaieteur Sports – Tonight, the Bartica FA’s Senior Men’s League continues with a double header following another intriguing double header which saw Potaro Strikers register their 3rd victory while AK Galaxy got a taste of their first.
The league is currently using the Bartica Community Centre Ground for this event’s action.
The 3-2 win was inspired by a 2nd half double from Shamar Stephen who found the back of the nets in the 58th and 74th minutes of play after Rising Stars held a 2-1 advantage at the half.
Daniel Gardener gave Strikers the lead as early as the 4th minute, but strikes on target by Chad Edwards(26′) and Ashton Dutchin(38′) saw the citadel of Strikers being breached for the first time in this season’s League competition.
The 3 points have now pushed the unbeaten Strikers to ten points in 2nd place and 2 points adrift of leaders and defending champions Rivers View after 4 matches each. Meanwhile, the Stars were on the receiving end for the 2nd time as they remain on 5 points from as many games in 4th place.
The other match of the night produced the 1st taste of success for AK Galaxy who defeated Mil Ballers 2-1, their 3rd loss in 4 outings. Ashberk Hohenkirk opened the scoring for the winners in the 25th minute and ten minutes later Mario Perreira doubled the lead. Kishan Tobin netted the consolation for Ballers in the 72nd minute.
The 3 points lifted Galaxy to 4 points from 5 games and 5th position, while Ballers, after 4 outings, remain on 3 points in 7th place.
The 2nd round of the Bartica SML will continue on this evening, July 24, with another 2 games. At 7 pm, Rising Stars oppose 6th placed Wolves United and at 9 pm, it will be penultimate spot holder, Lazio, against 3rd placed Beacons FC.
