Kaieteur Sports – The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports (MCY&S), in partnership with the Guyana Basketball Federation and the Georgetown Basketball Association, has unveiled the inaugural One Guyana Basketball Premier League, following an official launching which took place yesterday at the National Gymnasium.
The league is set to kick-off on the 12th August and promises to be a thrilling ride until March of next year, culminating in the highly anticipated Grand Conference Finals. The 2023 Basketball Premier League is an historic one and is geared to be an iconic sporting spectacle, bringing together the nation’s best teams and talents showcasing their skills on the court.
This historic occasion witnessed distinguished guests, including representatives from the fourteen participating teams, the esteemed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Charles Ramson Jr, GBF Technical Director, Ms. Sileena Arjune, GBA Vice President, Jermaine Slater, Vice President of the GBF, Sonia Rodney, and Sherman Gonsalves, the title sponsor representative from G-Boat Guyana, among others.

The league will be played every Saturday, at the abovementioned venue, according to the organisers of the event; the league will be divided into two conferences: the Harpy Eagles conference and the Jaguar conference. With a minimum of fifty-two games, including exhilarating playoff matches and an action-packed all-star weekend, basketball enthusiasts are in for a treat.

Meanwhile, adding to the excitement, a whopping $1,000,000 awaits the champions, while the runner-up team will take home $500,000. Outstanding players and teams will also be rewarded with medals, trophies, and substantial cash prizes, recognizing their exceptional performances throughout the league.
