Six-month-old baby critical after hitting head on rock

Kaieteur News – A six-month-old baby is reportedly critical after he fell off a chair on Wednesday and hit his head on a rock at Enteringbang, Cuyuni River, Region Seven. Up to press time yesterday, the baby’s parents were seeking assistance to transport him to a hospital in neighbouring Venezuela for immediate medical attention.

The child has been identified as Josue David Santanillo. Kaieteur News understands that the child was rushed to the Eteringbang Health Center immediately after he fell.

A referral note for immediate medical attention in neigbouring Venezuela was signed by the doctor stationed at the health centre. Kaieteur News understands that the doctor stated that there was no external bleeding but the baby’s face and head were swollen.

The referral note reportedly noted too that the baby was crying continuously.

Lacking the necessary equipment and with the Eteringbang airstrip still under repairs, the doctor had no choice but to refer the child to a hospital in Venezuela.

“Patient is being referred to Tumeremo Hospital in Venezuela for further treatment and pediatric specialty care,” the doctor’s referral note stated.
