Dear Editor,
It’s no wonder the opposition is hopelessly lost.
If buying votes means this government is building badly needed roads, building bridges, creating jobs including temporary jobs, cash grants for students including vouchers being given by the Education Ministry, carbon credits for the Amerindian communities (hopefully to develop their communities), to improve their standard of living, subsidies to citizens to assist in building homes, etc., etc. and so forth; then I say, let’s have more “Vote Buying”.
Who in Albouystown, (an Opposition stronghold, which is still part of Guyana) does not like the new look of Independence Boulevard? A lot has to be done in Guyana, and the government has been able to articulate the right message in various regions, resulting in a good showing at the most recent Local Government Elections. That is politics folks, that is how it is done. The American senators, and other elected officials who are voted into government, provide all sorts of projects for their constituents, including cash for this, that and the other (I wonder why?).
I suppose there are those in Guyana who don’t believe in proper drainage, house lots being given to citizens at a rapid clip, don’t want well paved roads, water to be provided to communities, job creation for the young people or green recreational spaces spearheaded by the first lady, well-lit roads, hospitals (hopefully with well medical staff) . In summary: Those people do not want Guyana to develop. That is what some people call a losing strategy.
Truly yours,
Chi Kansi
