Dem Boys Seh…
Kaieteur News – If yuh thought Guyana’s education system was a well-oiled machine, think again! We’ve got ourselves a real show with pomp. We does call it de grand annual parade of the top students! Meanwhile, the rest of the poor souls are shuffled to the shadows, hidden away like secrets in a politician’s bank account.
It’s like a twisted game where de brightest minds are paraded around town like prized cattle. Who needs genuine progress when yuh can have a fancy spectacle instead? After all, if we can’t solve the education crisis, we might as well distract everyone with pomp and circumstance.
Last week, we had we fancy parade, all in de name of celebrating the cream of the crop. The media was there, cameras flashing, capturing every moment of the show. Meanwhile, the struggling students are pushed aside, left to wallow in the dark corners of the education system, forgotten and ignored. They’re like the proverbial elephant in the room.
We were treated to interviews with the crème of de crop and speeches from the educational authorities. De newspapers published the images of the highflyers. One school was even euphoric with teachers celebrating the singular success of a student who got into Queen’s College. But, what of the other students?
It’s all a symphony of self-congratulation, a grand orchestra of delusion. Meanwhile, the problems plaguing our education system are left to fester like a rotten tomato.
The top students become symbols of success, while the struggling ones become invisible casualties of a broken system. But hey, who needs equity and fairness when you can have a flashy parade, right?
If we truly want to address the crisis in our education system, we need more than parades and empty accolades. We need real reform, genuine investment, and a commitment to nurturing every student, regardless of their academic prowess. We need to shine a light on the challenges, not just sweep them under the proverbial academic rug.
