Kaieteur Sports – With just over two weeks until the 2023 edition of the Inter-Ward Knockout Nine-a-side Knockout Football tournament, named after the esteemed former Mayor Hamilton Green, is set to commence. Organised by former national coach Lennox Arthur, this highly anticipated tournament will unfold from July 16 to August 27.
Coach Arthur has been hosting this prestigious tournament for more than 23 years, paying homage to the former Prime Minister of Guyana and Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green, who has been an avid supporter of sports throughout his career.
A total of thirty-one teams have been confirmed to participate in the competition. Representing regions such as East Coast Demerara, East Bank, West Bank, Georgetown, and Berbice, these teams will fiercely compete for the coveted title. The first-place winner will be awarded an impressive prize of $500,000, while the runner-up will receive $250,000. The third and fourth place finishers will also be rewarded with $150,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Expect to witness the participation of renowned teams like Victoria, Timehri, Beterverwagting (BV), Buxton, Bourda All Stars, Road Warriors, Gold is Money, Stewarttville, Lilliendaal, Ann’s Grove, Club 45, Dynamics, Mocha, Back Circle, Stabroek Ballers, Festival City Ballers, Airy Hall, Sparta Boss, Bent Street, Pouderoyen, Mahaica and many others. These teams will add to the excitement of this remarkable event.
On the opening day of the tournament, spectators can look forward to eight thrilling matches. The action kicks off at 17:00 hours at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, with Tucville facing off against Buxton. This will be followed by BV battling Timehri at 17:30. The evening continues with Road Warriors taking on Victoria, Gold is Money meeting Airy Hall, Melanie and Mahaica, Bourda All Stars striving to overcome Two Friends, Mocha clashing with Ann’s Grove and Lilliendaal facing off against Dynamic.
