Kaieteur News – A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank and another man were on Tuesday evening arrested after shooting at a shop owner of Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) did not divulge the reason behind the shooting but according information reaching Kaieteur News it was during an armed robbery. The victim told police that the suspects opened fire at him around 23:30hrs. He recalled that he and his wife were inside their shop at Riverview, when two men approached. One of them, he alleged, pulled out a hand gun and shot at him. The bullet missed him at which point he and his wife ran for cover. The suspects used the opportunity to steal the shop owner’s cell phone and other valuables before escaping. The shop owner later lodged a report with the police.
Ranks were sent to trail the suspects and later caught up with two men at Norton and Chapel Streets, Georgetown matching the description of the shooters. As the ranks approached them one of them pulled out a gun from his waist and threw it away. Ranks retrieved it and identified the weapon as a 9MM pistol with three live rounds. Kaieteur News understands that some articles stolen from the victims were found in their possession as well. The suspects are presently in police custody as investigations continue.
