Kaieteur News – A driver on Monday afternoon abandoned his car and plunged into a trench at La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD) after spotting ranks of the Guyana Police Force.
His actions drew a crowd as police surrounded the trench. He dived under for a bit but the police were not leaving. Despite surfacing, the driver was reluctant to leave the trench and police officers had to drag him out of the muddy water. As they took him to custody, onlookers asked the police: “Wha he do?” and the officers responded “drugs, drugs”.
Kaieteur News later learnt that the man had “two joints” (marijuana) in his car. A senior police official told Kaieteur News that “he has no clue why the driver decided to run” because persons don’t get lock up for small amounts of marijuana. He noted that if it exceeds the legal amount then the most that can happen is that a suspect will have to do community service.
