Dear Editor,
It is troubling, the child who was taken to Turkeyen Police Station as he was on a Sophia bus and did not come off, could not say his age or where he lived (Action News June 21). It was subsequently noted he lives in North Ruimveldt. The question remains why did he board a Sophia bus? By mistake maybe? Maybe too, the child was confused after realizing he joined the wrong bus.
It is suggested to assist him in future that his name, age, school, home address and name of parents or guardians along with contact telephone number(s) be written and placed in his bag for ease of reference. The presence of mind of the bus driver to take him to the police station must be commended.
The lesson here is that it is important to teach children basic information about themselves in order to provide such information in situations like this or as may be needed. It is hoped the child can recover from his ordeal.
