Dear Editor,
Reference is made to the United Nations March 21 designated Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The day was set aside to focus attention on discrimination and discriminatory policies following the Sharpeville massacre in 1960, during the period of Apartheid rule in South Africa.
To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Mark Phillips stated among other things as follows:- “The fact is that we have as a society come a long way since the turbulent 1960s when attempts were made by the then PNC, in collaboration with vested interests, to remove the democratically elected PPP force.”
When the PNC in Parliament proposed a modest sum to support the Freedom fighters in Southern Africa, it was the PPP who said we could not afford it. Prime Minister Mark Phillips must be careful before he regurgitates this one-sided propaganda attacking the PNC. What he should be doing is attempting to heal and not peel and he can do well to speak with the seniors who were around before he opens his mouth again. I forgive him but advise him to secure a copy of ‘Pain to Peace’, which refers to the period 1953 – 1964. It was the PNC in 1964 that brought an end to the murders, madness and mayhem which characterised the period of the 60s, he glibly talks about. I pity this gentleman for regurgitating old, inaccurate propaganda.
Regards,
Hamilton Green
