Kaieteur News – Ahead of the second round in the 2023 Milo Under-18 Schools Football Tournament, the point standings after the first round have been confirmed by the organising team, Petra, as they await the resumption on March 18, at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The first round of the tournament produced a total of 74 goals.

n, had a total of 16 matches being contested by the 32 teams, which accumulated a total of 74 goals.

The opening round also made an early statement of who the front runners are by virtue of their game play and ability to capitalise on opportunities. These 32 teams are divided into eight Groups, A through H, and produced 15 outright results and a draw.

In Group A, Carmel and Chase’s Academic Foundation (CAF) both secured their three points from victory but the former leads with a superior Goal Difference (GD) of +8 while CAF is second with +7. The other two teams in the Group, Dora (-7) and Bygeval (-8), both lost and are without points.

Group B has Bartica (+9) on top with East Ruimveldt (+5) in second, both with a win, while Marian Academy (-5) and Bush Lot (-9) are third and fourth. Group C has Westminster (+1) on top with three points while Charity and New Central High are both tied on 1 point, while Annandale (-1) is yet to score a point.

Defending Champion, Christianburg/Wismar (+5), leads Group D with a superior GD ahead of 8^th of May (+4) while Vryman’s Erven (-4) and West Demerara (-5) occupy the other two slots, respectively.

The E-labeled Group has the other Linden unit, Mackenzie High (+3), in the lead while Patentia (+2) is second while North Ruimveldt (-2) and President’s College (-3) are third and fourth. Group F has West Ruimveldt (+7) in the lead while Ann’s Grove (+3) is second and Queen’s College (-3) and Vergenoegen (-7) sit third and fourth, respectively.

Charlestown leads (+2) leads Group G while Cummings Lodge (+2), St Cuthbert’s Mission (-1) and Berbice Education Institute (-2) trail closely.

The final Group has Santa Rosa (+8) in the lead with St Stanislaus College (+1) in second while Dolphin (-1) and New Amsterdam (-8) are in third and fourth, respectively.

This weekend, the second round kicks off with four matches on Saturday, March 18, and another four matches the following day, Sunday, March 19, at the same venue.

This event is sanctioned by the MoE and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and also supported by MVP Sports, Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc. (GINMIN) and General Equipment & Supplies Inc. (GENEQUIP).
