Flight prices forbid Guyanese-Canadians from travelling to Guyana
Dear Editor,
I know this issue has been brought up on multiple occasions with Guyana’s government officials who promised to investigate and work with airlines to improve this. I must emphasise it is affecting Guyanese-Canadians to connect with the homeland. Guyana is ripe now with opportunities and doing much better economically with calls being made for the diaspora to respond, but how can people afford airfares that are almost two times any Caribbean destination from Canada to Guyana.
Canada is a very temperate country with several tourism packages available during the winter season to any Caribbean Island for half of what it will cost in Guyana. Yes, I did the comparative. I am once again calling on the government to step on the gas on this. Almost a 100k Guyanese are residing in Canada, 30k to 35k going back per year would do great for the local economy, this is leaving out business travelers and tourists.
