Kaieteur News – Satisfy your sweet tooth with a delicious cheesecake from ‘Sweet Confections.’ Choose from a variety of toppings such as strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, kiwi, passionfruit, Oreo or indulge in their renowned death-by-chocolate cheesecake.
While speaking with the owner of the business, 27-year-old Ronetta Alexis Austin, she shared that she began baking for her family and close friends in July 2019, and later launched her business officially.
When asked what inspired her to start Sweet Confections, Ronetta said, “I initially started baking cakes for family and friends who later encouraged me to get more exposure and promote my business. After a little over a year of continuously honing my skills and consistently perfecting my art, I reached a point of making a product that is consistent in quality and taste.”
She added, “Especially in meeting today’s society high standards. I eventually “launched late in November 2020 with my main driving force being a strong sense of independence; running my own business and providing for my family, while simultaneously being able to genuinely pursue a hobby I’m passionate about.”
According to the business owner, she initially started with cakes, cupcakes and other sweet treats, but due to the high demand for her cheesecakes on a daily basis, she eventually transitioned to solely making cheesecakes.
Ronetta shared that her customers’ favourite is the multi-toppings cheesecake and the chocolate cheesecake. Customers are also allowed to custom order their cheesecakes. Other options available is the cheesecake jar, cheesecake shooters, cheesecake brownies, cheesecake cupcakes and character themed cheesecakes.
“We have recently catered for Cevon’s Waste Management Christmas Light Up. We also catered for a few restaurants supplying them with cheesecakes throughout the recently concluded restaurant week,” Ronetta said.
Sweet Confections is located at Lot 64 Howes Street Charlestown, Georgetown (between Russell & Adelaide Streets). The business is opened Monday to Saturday from 08:00-hours to 16:00-hours.
“Coming from a family well versed in catering and cooking, I found myself being able to express my art through baking. Being a wife and mother of 1 with another on the way, coupled with a 9 to 5 job, having my business on the side does present its own challenges; but with the consistent support of my family, friends and even to the extent of my loyal customers, I have managed to rise above them all,” Ronetta shared.
As it relates to her long-term goal, Ronetta said, “I’m currently looking to pursue a more spacious business location in central Georgetown where I will be able to fully cater to my growing customer base as a dessert shop with a delicious difference. My aim is to establish the equivalent of Guyana’s first ‘Cheesecake factory’.”
