The Queen has died and many other such figures have been recalled unto God

Dear Editor,

Queen Elizabeth was a worldly figure, loved dearly by successive generations in the family of the Commonwealth of nations. She was elegant, carried herself with grace and dignity and from her early and unexpected ascendence to the throne, she became one with her subjects. She won hearts and swayed minds with her personable demeanour, warmth, her endearing charm, regal graciousness and oratorial prowess.

She was indeed a Princess upon whose shoulders, the weighty burden of the Monarchy fell upon. Queen Elizabeth inherited, not the once mighty British Empire but rather its carcass and she did so out of the ashes of World War II. Her unwavering pursuit to rebrand and redefine the Monarchy remained undaunted throughout her earthly life. It was only a couple days before her demise that she met with the new Prime Minister of Britain. Such was the commitment to her role, function and duties.

Moreover, Queen Elizabeth was seen by her subjects and multitudes the world over as a mother and grandmother. Her family life especially the follies of her children exposed her motherly attributes and sensitivities. While her family became the focus of much discussion, she held it all together as any mother would.

While the world mourns and expresses sorrow and extends condolences, and while decorum cautions against speaking ill of the dead, there are many who remain aggrieved by the past actions of the Crown and its failures to address long standing disputes.

The First Nations People of Canada, the US and the British West Indies, the Aborigines of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific are still seen as commoners, subjects of the Crown. Many leaders within these disadvantaged nations and peoples would much rather that the Queen’s death would also be the end of Crown Rule and of the Monarchy. They would much rather be seen as equals than subjects ending centuries of British imposed governance, laws, social mores and cultural practices.

There are also many other nations within the family of the Commonwealth group of Nations, that would love to see the end of the British Monarchy along with reparations for centuries of Crown rule; for the most vile form of slavery, indentureship, for the rape, pillage of resources, and theft of wealth and properties especially so from the Indian subcontinent and Africa.

This may not be the time to bring up these matters, but those who remain aggrieved while being sympathetic to the demise of the Queen are still seeking respect, redress and return of that which is rightfully theirs.

No soul bears the burden of another soul. The Queen was a lovely and dearly loved human being. While she leaves an enduring and enviable legacy, there are those who know and feel that she could have done more. Sadly her soul and now her successors bear the burden of inherited stolen wealth, unfulfilled promises, broken treaties and generations after generations pleading with their Lord for His justice. Certainly, nothing goes unpaid and final justice resides with the Creator of the world and everything therein.

May her soul Rest In Peace.
