Kaieteur News – While some persons may view photography as just picking up a camera and flashing a picture, to Michael Bonds it is more than that, to him its most importantly a form of art.

Bonds, who hails from the mining the town of Linden, is the talented 25-year-old behind the lens of ‘Michael Bonds Photography’ a business he introduced in 2017.
Bonds, whose photographs have been grabbing the attention of many lately, told Kaieteur News in a recent interview that his interest in photography was ignited a few years ago while he was a student at the University of Guyana majoring in Economics.
“It’s quite funny how I started photography. I was at university at which I was majoring in Economics. I had one of the latest Samsung phones and my friend had one of the latest iPhones and we began taunting each other about whose phone had the better camera quality. So every day we would go out and see who could take the best photograph. We used to photograph things like flowers and animal and along the way we started photographing people with our phones and editing them,” he recalled.
His interest and love for the art grew and this, he said, led him to buy his very own camera, pretty much kick starting his photography journey from there.
This journey, he said, has so far been well supported and graciously welcomed by many who have grown to love his work. “People regularly discover my work and contact me for bookings, so the support has been great,” he noted.

The young man said that over the years challenges he faced were minimum, but one he highlighted is that he had to deal with balancing his business, studies and work. Bonds is not only an entrepreneur but also a Health Promotion Officer attached to the Health Department of the Regional Democratic Council of Region 10.
The proud Lindener also added that while the pandemic impacted other small businesses, for him it surprisingly helped. “Social activities were so limited that most people resorted to just taking a lot of photograph and because of that I benefited,” he shared.
Bonds whose intention is to get better at his craft, highlighted that one of his long-term goals is to bring a different type of photography to his community. As it is now, his business primarily focuses on fashion and modelling photography.
Apart from that, he mentioned that he just wants to put his best foot forward and to continue making persons happy when they receive their photographs. Over the years, this young man’s work has been recognised by several local designers, models and boutiques – they have all utilised his services. Among those who have benefited from Bonds work are Naomi Murray Designs, Randy Madray Designs, Crème De La Crème, and the Fashion Box.

But to ensure that these businesses keep on striving, Bonds said that more locals need to support locally owned businesses. According to him, what he observes is that most persons tend to run to big businesses – primarily foreign and established businesses – for minor stuff, when they can simply get the same quality services from the “small man businesses.”
Supporting locals, he pointed out, will extremely help them better their service in every way possible.
Apart from that, “I would appreciate more financial aid organisations for small businesses,” he shared.
