…An honour by women for women
Kaieteur News – Celebrated as the most coveted award in Guyana to honour women, the 25 Influential Women Leaders Awards (25IWLA) returns to the spotlight to honour outstanding women in their respective career paths.
According to a release from the organisation, the 25 Influential Women Leaders Award is unique in its focus on honouring women leaders from every sector, rather than a single industry or endeavour, and this year will be held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel, Georgetown on Saturday June 18, 2022.
Co-Creator of the Award and Founder/CEO of the NICO Consulting Inc. Michelle A. Nicholas shared that “Women are powerful agents of change. They broke glass ceilings and push the frontiers of women’s leadership. This award brings together a powerful network of influential women in Guyana with the lens of inclusion, diversity, and equity. What began as a dream is now a significant movement.”
She said: “It is an honour to be able to recognise eminent women, who nurture, inspire and challenge us, and who are making a difference in their communities and the world. We’ve all witnessed the benefits of women in leadership… I look forward to celebrating our 2022 formidable women leaders.”
Lyndell Danzie-Black, who is also Co-Creator of the Award and Managing Director of Cerulean Inc., remarked that “As I observe an increase in the participation and empowerment of women, I am heartened by the number of programmes and projects championed by women. This creates an opportunity for society to celebrate more and more women in various strata.”
She noted that “In spite of the recent global challenges, we persevered, and this is our third Awards Ceremony and we are grateful for our many corporate citizens, community leaders and supporters who relentlessly continue to nominate and celebrate women leaders from across Guyana. This year we look forward to celebrating another 25 inspiring leaders.”
As such, Danzie-Black encourages members of the public to nominate truly outstanding female leaders in any field, so that they may be considered to be a recipient of this honour.
According to the release, 25IWLA is a creation which recognises the success of national and regional women leaders as well as the achievements of women from all walks of life, who have pushed the boundaries nationwide.
The aim of the 25IWLA is to redress the underrepresentation of women and transform how women leaders are viewed in Guyana by recognising their value, achievements and contributions. The award is designed to turn the spotlight on women – with 25 awardees who truly stand out for their passion and commitment to uplifting the business sector, their communities and society.
This is the environment that the 25IWLA creates to empower women, and the organisers look forward to nominations of outstanding Guyanese coming in from every part of our country so the diverse nature of the contribution of women to Guyanese society could be truly recognised.
Fifty women leaders, representing a diverse and visionary community have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to Guyana and Guyanese since the inaugural event in 2019. Even more importantly this curated group of female leadership talent has been given the chance to empower each other to elevate their abilities and achieve exponential impacts in their work; through creating dynamic communities where women leaders can cross pollinate ideas and networks.
Over the past three years, the awards have been lauded by attendees and supporters alike.
Speaking at the Awards Gala last year, British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Jane Miller, noted, “I have been blown away in the three months I have been here by the most incredible women.”
These sentiments were echoed by other members of the diplomatic corps, including His Excellency Fernando Ponz Canto, High Commissioner of the European Delegation to Guyana, who have similarly supported the event over the years.
Similarly, Ambassador of the USA to Guyana Sarah-Ann Lynch noted the “Personal and professional development cannot be an individual responsibility. It must come from a supportive environment that motivates people to perform at their highest level.”
Meanwhile, Corporate Guyana has embraced the 25IWLA Gala event as a premium networking opportunity one to demonstrate their organisation-wide embrace of diversity initiatives and gender equity.
The organisers of the event have extended their thanks to the sponsors of the 2021 activity, who included lead sponsor Symmetry Brokerage and Logistics, as well as ExxonMobil Guyana.
The Small Business Bureau, SBM Offshore, Church’s Chicken and Republic Bank, are also among supporters of the event.
The award looks forward to expanded support as more companies look to recognise the worth of women’s endeavours across Guyana.
