When I used to attend school, we used to go on trips to town (Georgetown), as we called it. We would go to places like the Museum, The Lighthouse, The Botanical Gardens, Banks breweries etc.
I do not know if they do these tours anymore but I’d like to suggest, especially to children of PPP hardcore supporters, that they be asked to be taken on a tour of Georgetown. I suggest that they go through Middle Street, by Thomas Street to see that skyscraper; and go by the Magistrates’ Court in Croal Street and see the other skyscraper. These buildings are all owned by friends and supporters of the PPP government. That is what you, as a child, have to aspire to.
Please do not let your tour guide take you into Bel Air, where you may pass the building where Cheddi Jagan lived, because you will not be inspired. Cheddi gave his life for this country and the ordinary man. Those values have long disappeared and it is now champagne and caviar, towers and skyscrapers.
Sincerely,
Derek Ramlochan
