DCB’s Premier Insurance U-15 Inter Ass 50-over cricket…
By Sean Devers
Thirties from Lemar Seecharran, Reyaz Latif and Shane Prince fired pre-tournament favourites Georgetown to their third consecutive victory when they crushed Upper Demerara by 129 runs at DCC ground yesterday as action continued in the Demerara Cricket Board’s Premier Insurance 50 overs U-15 Inter-Association cricket tournament.

Georgetown won the toss and elected to bat on a slow track and very good outfield despite the recent rain in the City and in brilliant sunshine fell for 183 in 46.1 overs before dismantling debutants Upper Demerara for 54.
After Kishan Silas was removed by Corey Charles for four at 18-1, the 10-year-old left-handed Seecharran, who favoured the cut, added 26 for the second wicket with Johnathan Mentore (4) who fell to Kevon Phillips at 44-2.
Seecharran pulled for four to get into double figures and dominated the partnership with Joshua Charles before Charles (6) was removed by Shaukel Fiedtkou as the City side slipped to 66-3.
Seecharran and 12-year-old Latif joined forces and the pair brought up the 100 with sensible batting against a steady bowling attack which showed promise.
Seecharran, whose only flaw was his running between the wickets, was caught and bowled by Charles after facing 93 balls and reaching the boundary four times to leave the score on 103-4.
Latif gained in confidence as his innings progressed and was joined by the left-handed Dave Mohabir who hit a cameo 13 before he was caught behind off Phillips at 126-5.
Danesh Persaud hammered three fours in a run-a-ball 27 which was decorated with three boundaries but with the partnership on 36 Persaud followed a wide ball from Dishon Ashby at 165-6.
Ashby had Prince caught and bowled for a duck a run later and had Darwin LaRose stumped first ball without addition to the score as GT slipped to 166-8.
Kwasi Williamson was run out by direct hit while Brandon Henry fell to Ashby leaving Latif unbeaten on 33 from 97 balls with two fours.
Ashby finished with 4-29, while Charles (2-26) and Phillips (2-34) offered support for Upper Demerara who were undermined by the pace of Prince who captured 3-12 with all of his victims being bowled.
Medium pacer Mentore supported with 2-11 as Ashby and Fiedtkou top scored with eight each.
GT who had two practice games in addition to a two-week clinic, are scheduled to play their last match on Monday against East Bank at Farm.
