I was consistently passed over for promotion despite being recommended several times

Dear Editor,

Kaieteur News – Despite losing three people close to me to suicide and brain aneurysms, I look back on 2021 with a heart bursting with gratitude.
This is largely in part due to the growth I’ve experienced at my current place of employ – the Environmental Protection Agency. Having worked diligently at the Agency for the past decade, and having been seconded to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Department of Environment to work on national policies (Litter Enforcement Regulations, Expanded Polystyrene Ban Regulations, consultations on the GSDS), I was consistently passed over for promotion despite being recommended several times.
Under EPA’s new Executive Director, Mr. Kemraj Parsram, I was promoted to the post of Senior Environmental Officer. This dear editor has given me much motivation to execute my duties with even more zeal, and to pursue my Masters Degree in Communications. With this, I’m able to continue to make my late uncle proud of the work I’ve done.
The Christmas season is notorious for lifting one’s spirit, and 2021 did not disappoint. Despite having received backlash from the media and some members of the public regarding the execution of our duties, I was heartened to join my colleagues in conducting our annual Christmas initiatives. From our own pockets, we were able to fund meal packages for sixty children who reside in close proximity to our headquarters in Georgetown – our plan is to increase the number of children reached next year. We were also able to provide personalized gifts to more than fifty children in children’s homes in Regions Three, Four, Six, and Ten. Staff went a step further by donating blood during the season, a time when need is greatest. With contributions from our Deputy Executive Director, and officers at all levels of management, we successfully conducted three blood donation drives during 2021, donating fifty units to the blood bank.
While these events can in no way dissipate the loss of my loved ones, they do offer a glimmer of hope and the resolution to continue these acts into the New Year. Thank you to the management and staff of the EPA, and a very happy new year to you and your readers.
