Continued hurling of poisons hurt and not help

DEAR EDITOR,

I noticed Ms. Ryhaan Shah’s very interesting reply to Mr. Hamilton Green. I worked with this gentleman for many years, and believe that his effort and reconciliation allowing Guyanese to learn the truth of previous events so that we do not repeat them is highly commendable.
Ms. Shah’s letter is valueless unless she can move away from well-worn propaganda and statements with no basis in fact, no evidence whatsoever. I recall some years ago, Mr. Green placed an open challenge to the PPP top brass and the public on the subject of a polygraph (lie detector test), hoping that others would do so. Today, to the best of my knowledge, no one has taken up this challenge.
To deal with Ms. Shah’s letter, it is full of inconsistencies. On the one hand, Shah claims that an enquiry into the Son Chapman incident was not conclusive, but yet she puts pen to paper and accuses the PNC of a number of absurdities and even where inquests and enquiries were inconclusive, she attempts to lay blame at the feet of Mr. Green and the PNC. And for example ignores the influence evident of the recorded fact that Abraham was promoted (SIC) from PS of the Premier Office to that of PS in the Ministry of Works. She has ignored or has not read the enquiries into the death of the victims of the Son Chapman tragedy. She ought to know that Mr. Green’s stated objective is to find opportunities for reconciliation so that the people of Guyana can learn from the past and have the good sense to move to high ground as One People, and so long as the likes of Shah and others continue to behave as though the PPP were saints and the PNC sinners, we would be unable to unlock the door of hate, suspicion and distrust.
Ms. Shah should provide facts to support any of the accusations she has levelled at the PNC. I read in one of Mr. Green’s letters that Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, operated on the basis that if you repeated untruth often enough, it will soon be believed. Ms. Shah is apparently a disciple of Goebbels, and we challenge her to present any credible evidence, I say credible evidence to support her poison arrows directed to the PNC and Mr. Green, and I notice how she assiduously avoided commenting on the Ishmael incident at Tain Village on the Corentyne.
So long as this race-baiting continues, we will all be victims of warped images from the past.
