Egdhill first athlete to be sponsored by lotto company

Kaieteur News – Former Caribbean under-21 women’s Table Tennis champion, Chelsea Edghill, who recently received one of two global wildcard spots to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the Tokyo Olympics this July-August, has created history by becoming the first athlete to be sponsored by the Guyana Lottery Company (GLC).
The works were in the pipeline for the partnership even before the International Olympic Association (IOC) and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) made the announcement of Edghill earning the wildcard spot and during a simple but extremely significant ceremony yesterday at the GLC head office on Lamaha Street, it was made official.
General Manager of the GLC, Tracey Lewis, expressed delight at the partnership with the Table Tennis star and revealed that the GLC and Guyana will be in full support of her, not only at the Tokyo Olympics but in all her future endeavours and wished her success.
During brief remarks, Edghill expressed heartfelt gratitude to the GLC for their support as she continues to strive to reach her full potential and excel. The former Queen’s College student mentioned a special thank you to broadcaster and GLC Brand Ambassador; Rawle Toney, and the media for their advice and support.
At the media brief, Toney highlighted that, “It’s a pleasure for the GLC to be associated with Chelsea Edghill”, and he confirmed that the sponsorship will be for one year.
The Let’s Bet Sports Ambassador noted that there are no conditions for the sponsorship with the exception of Chelsea continuing be a good role model and stellar athlete.
Head of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Godfrey Munroe, posited during the presentation that it’s a momentous event for an elite athlete to be recognised and supported to reach one’s full potential.
